During the last couple of weeks, I have been bombarded with questions and comments about the Don’t’ Die movement and documentary. For those who don’t know, I am referring to a Netflix documentary by Bryan Johnson in which he is dedicating his life to find ways to delay his aging process. In recent years, Bryan Johnson has gained attention for his anti-aging efforts, which he refers to as "Project Blueprint." He has invested millions in trying to reverse his physical aging process and claims to have achieved significant results. Johnson's journey and methods are documented in the Netflix documentary "Don't Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever".
Bryan Johnson is an American entrepreneur and venture capitalist known for his innovative work in technology and health. He is the founder and former CEO of Braintree, a company specializing in mobile and web payment systems, which acquired Venmo and was later sold to PayPal for $800 million. Johnson also founded Kernel, a company focused on developing devices that monitor and record brain activity.
The "Don't Die" phenomenon, is a movement focused on redefining human longevity through advanced technology and biohacking. Johnson's ambitious goal is to achieve as states by him "longevity escape velocity," where advancements in science can slow or halt biological aging. His Project Blueprint utilizes data-driven health protocols, AI, and experimental medical treatments to push the boundaries of aging. The movement has gained significant attention, with Johnson's rigorous routines and controversial techniques, such as blood transfusions, sparking both fascination and debate. The recent "Don't Die" Summit further highlighted the movement's growth, offering immersive experiences and showcasing cutting-edge anti-aging technologies. Although much criticism has come to Johnson's methodology, I do believe that much can be learned from him and his determination to crack the code of life.
All this begs the questions of which is better living longer or living happier? Living happier and living longer are two goals that often intersect but can sometimes diverge. Pursuing happiness involves finding joy in everyday moments, nurturing relationships, and engaging in activities that bring fulfillment and purpose. It's about embracing a positive mindset, practicing gratitude, and prioritizing mental and emotional well-being. On the other hand, living longer focuses on physical health, longevity, and adopting habits that promote a longer lifespan, such as regular exercise, a balanced diet, and preventive healthcare. While both goals are important, the key lies in finding a balance where the pursuit of happiness enhances the quality of life, and healthy living supports a longer, more fulfilling existence. Ultimately, a life well-lived is one where happiness and longevity coexist harmoniously, enriching each day with meaning and vitality. As the documentary ends we can clearly see that Bryan has been able to control and guide his physical and mental health yet he struggles with balancing his happiness with the strict and demanding daily activities that his longevity protocol demands.
One big win for Bryan is the fact that he has shown that being consistent and establishing a routine bring great benefit to your health. We can see that doing just a hand full of things very well and in a consistent manner brings more long-term benefits that doing a great number of things in a inconsistent matter. Consistency is Key.
